1952 Zeiss Ikon Contax IIa with Lens and Original Leather Case, Freshly serviced, CLA’d

In this listing we have a classic Zeiss-Ikon Contax 35mm camera. This was Zeiss Ikon’s top of the line rangefinder camera and it is popular among collectors and photographers alike. Many owner cherish & enjoy these cameras because of their delightful handling characteristics, their quiet shutters and their ability to use the fine Carl Zeiss Contax lenses produced before and after the second world war.

The serial number indicates that this camera was produced in 1952 in Germany by Zeiss-Ikon Stuttgart. It’s in good condition and fully functional. It uses normal 35mm film

It comes complete with a lens, brown leather case and a  film take up spool.

Fine Contax cameras have always been a desirable and this one is even more so because it’s been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted.  The coupled rangefinder image is easy to see and works well. The shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B & 1 sec - 1/1250th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly and the fast speeds are clean and snappy.

The camera controls are easy to use and in case you’re wondering, the shutter speed dial is on the upper right of the camera just below the film advance knob, and the aperture control is of course on which ever lens you decide to use.

The lens is a coated Carl Zeiss 2.0/50mm Sonnar. As is often the case, the aperture blades have just a touch of lubricant on them, (however this isn’t an issue because the apertures don’t have to move instantly as they do on an SLR camera).  The glass is in excellent condition. It’s clean and clear. There are no scratches and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color and B&W films.

All in all, a very enjoyable rangefinder camera. If you’ve been looking for a good one, then you’ve just found it. Just load it with your favorite film and shoot.
