This is a 1936 6x9 folding camera produced by Ihagee Kamerawerk in Dresden Germany. Prior to its destruction in the final months of WWII, Dresden was considered one of the world's most beautiful and elegant cities. This camera had an elegance to match it. Wrapped in real leather, it was equipped with an excellent lens and a Compur shutter. Another advanced feature was that the lens and shutter moves together as a unit when focusing. This provides better lens performance (especially up close) than the more common “front cell focus” in which only the front element is turned in or out.

It's a competent, compact camera which uses 120 roll film to produce lovely 6x9 photos.  When it comes to film, bigger is better and this camera can create a 6x9 negative that’s about 6 times larger than the average 35mm snapshot. So whether you’re interested in big prints, fine grain, rich tonal gradations or lovely colors, this camera can do it all. 

This 83 year old camera has been carefully serviced. Everything else works as it should. The quality Compur shutter has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B, T & 1 sec - 1/250th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along nicely and the fast speeds are clean and snappy. 

The lens is a f4.5/105cm (105mm) Ihagee Anastigmat. The design of the lens is based on a classic Cooke design (three elements in three groups). It’s well known for its very pleasing rendering and a nicely rounded attractive bokeh. The lens is clean and clear. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other problems. There are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color and black & white film.

All in all a very lovely camera. The perfect companion for photographers with a historical interest.
