Rare! 1934 CERTO Super Sport Dolly, CLA'd, Freshly Serviced!
Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use
This is a rare circa 1934 Super Sport Dolly produced by the Certo Camera Company in Dresden Germany. Prior to WWII, Dresden was considered one of the world's most beautiful and elegant cities. This camera had the elegance to match. It was an expensive, high spec camera. It featured an interchangeable lens mount and the ability to shoot plate film as well as roll film. Strangely enough is also had two wind knobs, which allowed the user to rewind a partially used roll of film (a convenient feature if you decided to switch to a different film stock mid-roll). It was also wrapped in the most lovely embossed leather ever used on a camera. It’s highly sought after and clean working examples are few and far between. These models were designed as dual format cameras. This one is currently set up for 6x6. (It can also produce 6x4.5 if you have the correct reduction mask in your collection.) In case you’re wondering, this camera uses 120 roll film
This desirable camera has been carefully serviced. Everything else works as it should. The quality Compur-Rapid shutter was the very best shutter of its era. It’s been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B, T & 1 sec - 1/400th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along nicely and the fast speeds are clean and snappy.
The lens is a relatively fast f2.9/7.5 cm (75mm) Meyer Gorlitz Trioplan. The design of the lens is based on a classic Cooke design (three elements in three groups). It’s well known for its very pleasing rendering and a nicely rounded attractive bokeh. The lens is very clean. There are no separated elements, crystallization or other problems. There are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing lovely photos with modern color and black & white film.
All in all a very lovely camera. The perfect companion for photographers with a historical interest.
