Zeiss-Ikon
Near Mint! 1956 6x6 Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta IV, 534/16 with Tessar lens.. CLA'd, Freshly Serviced!
Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use!
This is a freshly serviced Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta with a built in rangefinder that never leaves you guessing about the distance or the focus. It folds out to take 12 beautiful 6 x 6 cm exposures on normal 120 roll film. Bright exposures alive with all the vivid details, lovely colors and rich tonal range that only medium format can provide. When it comes to photography, bigger is better and this camera can produce a large negative that’s more than four times larger than the average 35mm snap shot. The real appeal is that all of this is produced by a camera that folds up into a small package. So whether you're interesting in very fine grain, rich tonal values, saturated colors or big enlargements, this camera can do it all and its compact size will never give you a reason to leave it at home.
This is a Zeiss-Ikon 6x6 Super Ikonta (model 534/16) which was produced in Stuttgart Germany from 1956 - 1960. It was a high-end camera and featured a coupled rangefinder to make focusing quick and easy. Everything works as it should with the exception of the uncoupled selenium light-meter. As is usual for this model the meter no longer works (The selenium solar cells weren’t designed to last 60 years.) Fortunately that’s not a problem. Simply use a modern handheld meter (or one of the many light-meter apps for your smartphone) and you’ll be good to go.
This camera has been carefully cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The top of the line Synchro-Compur shutter works smoothly and all speeds (B & 1 sec - 1/500th) are appropriate. The slow speeds buzz along smoothly and the fast speeds are clean and snappy. This camera works with a normal electronic flash. The flash will fire correctly at any desired shutter speed. (This is of course very convenient for flash fill.) The coupled rangefinder has also been cleaned and it’s easy to use and accurate. The bellows are supple and light tight. The viewfinder is exceptionally clear. The 3.5/75mm coated Carl Zeiss Tessar lens is superb and looks virtually like new. There are no scratches, no cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing very lovely photos with modern color and B&W films.
All in all an exceptionally fine classic camera. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing that you had a classic medium format camera with you...
