Zeiss-Ikon
1937 ZEISS-IKON 6x4.5 Folding Camera, CLA'd, Freshly Serviced!
Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use
This is a Zeiss Ikon 6x4.5 classic folding camera. It’s a medium format camera which is small enough to always have with you. Smaller than many 35mm cameras, it easily fits easily into a jacket pocket, yet it folds out to take 16 beautiful photos on a single roll of 120 roll film. Each photo alive with all the details, the rich tonal gradations, the lovely colors, that only medium format can provide. When it comes to photography bigger is better and this camera will produce a negative that’s more than three times larger than the average 35mm snapshot.
This camera’s life has been long and colorful. I can’t tell you the stories of where it’s been but the serial number indicates that it started its long journey of many roads and many years in Germany in 1937. It was a time and a place when the world looked very different than it does today. At the time it was a brand-new invention for a brave new world. Now eighty-two years later, this camera still works flawlessly. It’s an ideal camera for a photographer with historical interest, who wants to work regularly with a vintage camera. Additionally this camera has also just been serviced and is ready for immediate use.
This camera is in excellent condition and everything works as it should. It’s been cleaned, lubricated and adjusted. The shutter fires smoothly and all speeds are appropriate. The real leather bellows are soft, supple and completely light tight. The original folding viewfinder is clean and gives a good view of your compositions.
The lens that Zeiss-Ikon used on this camera is a 75mm, which is based on the classic Cooke design with three elements in three groups. It’s well known for the attractive rendition and bokeh it produces. The glass is exceptionally fine. It’s, clear and clear. There are no scratches or cleaning marks and it’s capable of producing beautiful photos with modern color & B&W films.
All in all, a very enjoyable little camera. The perfect camera for photographers with a historical interest. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing you had a classic camera with you.
