Beier
New Old Stock, 1956 6x6 Beier Precisa, CLA'd, Freshly Serviced!
Cleaned, Lubricated & Adjusted. Ready for immediate use
This is a Beier Precisa dual format folding camera. It was produced in Germany in circa 1956 and features an uncoupled rangefinder that never leaves you guessing about the distance or focus. It’s folds out and will produce 12 beautiful 6x6, or 16 6x4.5 negatives on normal 120 roll film. Bright exposures alive with all the vivid details, lovely colors and rich tonal range that only medium format can provide. When it comes to photography, bigger is better and this camera can produce a large negative that’s more than four times larger than the average 35mm snapshot. The real appeal is that all of this is produced by a camera that folds up into a small package. So whether you're interested in very fine grain, rich tonal values or big enlargements, this camera can do it all and its compact size will never give you a reason to leave it at home.
It’s new old stock and has been in storage for many decades. (Please see photos.) In addition to inspecting it, it’s also been carefully Cleaned, Lubricated and Adjusted and everything works as it should. The shutter works well and all speeds (B & 1sec - 1/250th) are appropriate. It has an X sync flash connector and it’s been tested and works with a normal electronic flash. The flash will fire correctly at any desired shutter speed. (This is of course very convenient for flash fill.)
The coated lens is a delightful f3.5/75mm Meyer Optik Trioplan, which is a classic Cooke design with three elements in three groups. It’s well known for its attractive rendition and has an excellent reputation in Europe for sharp imagery combined with a lovely bokeh and soft smooth backgrounds. The glass is clean and clear, it looks like new and it’s capable of producing very lovely photos with modern color & B&W films.
It comes complete with its original brown leather camera case and 6x5.4 reduction mask.
All in all an exceptionally fine camera that’s enjoyable to use and produces very lovely photos. Load it with your favorite film and keep it handy for that perfect shot you’ve been looking for. You know the one... the one with the perfect Ansel Adams light breaking through the dark storm clouds that leaves you wishing that you had a medium format camera with you.
